The founders of ROC Writes

Two sisters + a love of reading = ROC Writes

ROC Writes was born from a deep admiration for the diverse literary scene in our area and a desire to bring more attention to it in all its forms, whether you're self published, not yet published, or boasting the big five.
We really love you all.

While we'll never mutter the blasphemy that print is of the past, we do believe multiple platforms are key to greater reach. Thus, the idea for the ROC Writes podcast was born along with the ROC Writes website,  which features local books, authors, area book launches and writing events, and more.

We're constantly building our site and reach and hoping that all our area friends who love writing and  reading as much as we do will help us grow our content.
If you love to read and want to support your local literary scene, look no further. Please feel free to contact us about any area authors you'd like to see featured, events, or books.

Sheilah Randall

As a wee child, Sheilah struggled with the written word. Reading was not her strong suit. However, with help and coaching from her word loving family she grew devotional to the written word and is now a devouring reader. Due to her beginnings, she has a strong belief in the promotion and sharing of literacy with those around her.

While she is not the professional writer in the family, she shares a passion for the craft itself and an appreciation for those who are literary creators. She fantasizes about one day joining the ranks as a wordsmith too.

Sheilah holds a master's degree in library and information science from the University at Buffalo and a bachelor's degree in English-Literature from Nazareth College of Rochester. She currently is a librarian for a local college, and enjoys making book trailers for various authors. Additionally, drawing and knitting are two of her favorite pastimes. She lives in the city of Rochester, New York, with her insanely smart husband and dog-children.

Katrina M. Randall

Coming from a background that includes a treasonous journalist ancestor, a poem-writing grandfather with a penchant for vampire lore, and a mother whose past inspires wrenching memoir passages, it’s no surprise the written word runs deep within Randall’s veins. So when a Faerie circle never ended up stealing her away to another world, she decided to create her own. She started when she was six years old with a poem about a merry fairy, segueing into a passionate affair with the fantastical.

She is the author of The Reaper’s Daughter, a YA Paranormal novel, and the forthcoming Dreamer Saga quartet, an epic fantasy series. When Randall isn’t writing her next novel and being a mommy to a lively little boy, she is busy at work serving as a freelance editor and writer.

Randall holds a master’s degree in journalism from Syracuse University's S.I. Newhouse School of Communications and a bachelor's degree in English-Literature from Nazareth College of Rochester. She lives in Upstate New York’s Finger Lakes region with her husband, their energetic and imaginative little boy, a crazy goldendoodle named Luna, and a stubborn maltese mix named Wookie.
